Flags Flying High for school community
A day of celebrations to acknowledge the fantastic achievements of a school community, outstanding educators and teachers, remarkable children and incredible parents. What a celebration it was.
First of all Tullamore Educate Together N.S started the celebrations off with the launch of their new ‘Buddy Benches’. The ‘Buddy benches’ were kindly made and donated by Tullamore’s Mens Shed. Buddy Benches or a friendship bench promotes friendship in the school yard. Eliminating loneliness or isolation and fostering friendships. Friends help us through tough times, they fulfil the need to belong and help give meaning to our lives.
The children of 3rd Class did a fabulous short play explaining the true meaning of the buddy benches, it was inspiring. The school community was very proud to dedicate one of the buddy benches to the memory of past pupil Patryk. His family were able to attend and his mother did the honours of cutting the ribbon. For that reason this is now and always will be an even more special place for the children.
As everyone gathered themselves and took time to reflect it was time to move around and acknowledge a great achievement. The raising of yet another green flag for the school. The school community are very passionate about the Green Schools programme and all things green. The celebrations would continue.
Celebrations included a truly inspiring song from some of the children.
Invited guest Councillor Tommy McKeigue was there to support the fantastic effort of the children and the school. Cllr McKeigue gave a wonderful talk on all things green and the importance of our environment. Before the flag was raised some of the children wanted to share a special song with us. Through the school yard came the sound of angelic voices singing a beautiful version of ‘I am the Earth’, it was just breathtaking. Thank you to 3rd, 4th and 5th Class for sharing such a moving song with us.
With the help of two of the schools Green Flag Committee and 3rd Class Teacher, Gary Cllr McKeigue raised the flag. As it was being raised the whole school counted down, it reached the top of the flag pole, was caught by the wind, it fluttered with pride and the children cheered in joy. Celebrations were in full swing.
While tea and cakes were served to honorary guests the children were given a well deserved goody-on-bag. Celebrations were about to continue and were only a song beat away.
Finally it was now party time and time for the children to let their hair down and celebrate all their hard work. DJ Wy and Anna Bananna the Clown were on hand to make sure the music was jamming and the party was pumped. Balloons and bubbles were enjoyed by all. The children had a wonderful celebration and all danced until they could dance no more. The children probably slept very well that evening.
It was a tremendous day. A really special day of celebrations. Hence a true testament to just how incredible this school and community is.
